The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the new Macro 70mm F2.8 EX DG lens . The design of this lens makes it suitable for taking pictures in all situations from infinity to 1:1 macro, both with natural light conditions or flash. A Special Low Dispersion (SLD) lens and two high refractive index SLD lenses provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations and produce an exceptional level of optical performance. Sigmas super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, and helps create a natural color balance. The floating focus system provides extremely high optical performance from infinity to 1:1 Macro. A Focus Limiter Switch in incorporated on the lens, improving the speed and accuracy of autofocus by limiting the focus range. A screw-in lens hood is included for convenient use of circular polarizing filters.

    "This is an excellent mid-length lens at a fantastic price that works beautifully on my Canon film and digital bodies. Having the optics of a macro and clarity of a non-zoom it is great for macro work (obviously) but also for a general purpose/portrait lens. It has great colour rendition and really well handled depth-of field.

It's an easy lens to handle, with the Limit/Full and AF/MF switches in easy reach and a nice sized barrel that sits well in the hand.

The only gripes are that the the lens hood is a strange beast that screws into the front element but is a larger diameter than the lens cap so when it's on, you can't put on the cap. Also, the Auto focus in macro mode is quite slow ... but then again, do you really want to be using AF in Macro mode?

Overall, this is an excellent lens that is useful for a wide range of macro subjects as well as general purpose and portrait work."

    "I was searching for a longer focal length prime lens and had no experience with Sigma. A friend of mine was very high on the brand so I decided to give it a chance. I have to say the lens exceeded my expectations, with very true colors and (to my eye) a distortion free image, even at the edges. The focus is fast and quiet. I would recommend this lens to anyone!"
