Canon Macro lens-100mm-F/2.8-Canon EF incorporates a ring-type USM giving quiet, high-speed autofocus. The full-time mechanical manual focus gives very smooth manual focusing. For the first time in a 1X focusing telephoto macro lens, inner focusing is used.
Canon Macro lens-100mm-F/2.8-Canon EF Overview

Capture razor-sharp closeups and uncover new worlds of photographic detail with this high-quality macro lens from Canon. Its close-focusing capability lets you turn small, everyday objects into dramatic, frame filling images — count the grains of pollen clinging to a flower's stamen or get a clear view of the veins in a dragonfly's wing. Plus, this lens' medium telephoto focal length and large maximum aperture also make it ideal for shooting striking portraits with pleasantly blurred backgrounds that make your subjects stand out.

The EF 100mm macro gives you precise, silent auto focusing using advanced Canon optics and a powerful ultra sonic motor (USM). A wide, smooth-action focusing ring allows full-time manual focus and lets you instantly override the AF whenever necessary with just a twist. When focused as closely as possible, you get a generous working distance of nearly 6" between the front lens element and your subject to avoid contact or interference.

Canon Macro lens-100mm-F/2.8-Canon EF user reviews

"What else can be said about this lens that hasn't been said?It is lighting-fast, razor-sharp, has incredible bokeh, and is the least-expensive macro lens on the market. The Nikon is double the price and doesn't produce any better images. The Sony is [$] more and doesn't produce better images. The 100 mm Zeiss is an incredible lens, but it is more than 3x the price, doesn't have auto-focus, and doesn't offer true 1:1 macro capability. The Canon 100mm macro is simply the best lens, for the least money, that a person can buy. No other manufacturer offers the macro capability, versatility, and economy of the Canon macro systems. If you're serious about macro, buy Canon.I highly recommend putting the Canon MT-24EX Macro Ringlite Flash at the end of your lens, not just for low-light situations, but just to get uniform lighting in any situation. It is an unbeatable value and combination!"

"I read a lot of reviews before I bought this lens, and it's really as good as many people recommended. It focus really fast and quiet and thanks to the internal focusing, therefore, it's very easy to attach and use a PL filter. I do notice that in very low light or completely white/dark background, the focusing will hunt for a while before it can lock on the subject. All in all, it's really a hidden L-quality lens that you can buy at this price except my 17-40mm L lens."

"Absolutely the most entertaining lens in my bag. If I am not using this lens I am most likely using the 10-22mm ultra-wide. The image quality is outstanding, the lens is fast, and the price is reasonable. If you are interested in entomology and/or botany a lens like this is a must.

""I just bought this lense for casual use and I am glad. Using on a rebel xti and it's easy to get great looking pictures. I was looking at other lenses that cost twice as much as this, so it's a welcome hit to the pocket. The weight is more than I expected, but not too much. I can't wait to go use it some more." "

""This lens without a doubt deserves the "L" label that Canon only puts on their 'best' lenses. Not only are the pictures *incredibly* sharp, but the focusing is fast (includes a USM motor with override manual focus), quiet, and the lens is constructed like a tank. It's my favorite lens and I highly recommend it." "
